We
packed up from the Youth Hostel and Margaret swooped addresses with the family
from Chesterfield who had shared our kitchen with us.
It was a blustery day and
threatened to rain. We drove to Barmston
and the kids got out of the car for a run around whilst I took some photos with
the camcorder. I then set off along the
beach having scrambled down the muddy cliff near the caravan park and onto the
sand.
There
was little of note all walk. It was easy
walking on the sand without many people around.
The good thing was that it had started to brighten up and the threat of
rain had gone. As I neared Briddlington the beaches got busier.
I had advised Margaret that it was probably
best not to go all the way into Briddlington on the road as it had appeared
crowded with traffic but to instead park on the outskirts near the south
beach. We had arranged to meet in the
‘60s café’ again but as I was walking along on the seafront I virtually tripped
over Gareth and Sean playing in the sand – I could tell it was them as they
were the only two fully clothed ones on the whole beach!
I went
and met Margaret sitting at the top of the beach and after a good relaxing time we
headed off towards Briddlington. I wanted to stop walking in a sensible place
to start next time.
The harbour area was
very crowded with visitors. The family
went off for a while to the slot machines and I walked a bit further on the
north side of the town before turning back to meet them in the ‘60s café’. It was only serving snacks today so we had
a coffee and then headed back to the car, stopping for an ice-cream for the
boys.
The
journey back to Coventry was a little nerve racking because of Gareth's travel sickness
experience and we had to stop a couple of times at service stations to break
the journey.
