Day: 73 27/5/91 Crackington Haven to Tintagel

Distance:  16.5km (10.2 miles)    Total Distance:   1021 miles

After a noisy night at the campsite at Boscastle due to a rowdy Bat-People van a couple of yards away, we packed up quickly and drove to Crackington.  Margaret did not walk today but took the car (up a steep hill), picked up a hitch-hiker in Boscastle and then went to Tintagel for the day.  I had a cup of tea in the café and bought a newspaper. The car park attendant was getting ready to rescue the Bank Holiday Monday traffic – expecting very large crowds on this sunny day.

The mornings walk was not as hilly as the previous day but was on high rolling cliffs.  High Cliff was in fact 700 ft – the highest in Cornwall.  There were quite a few people on the path towards Boscastle.  I met a couple who I talked to where the man was 82. Some of the path around Pentargon was close to the edge but there were lots of gulls to see on the large rocks off shore.

Boscastle was much more crowded than the previous night but there was still room in the pub for a cool pint.  By now it was getting very warm!

The afternoon was again not too hilly with many off shore islands to watch.  I was very impressed with Rocky Valley, a deep dark grey valley with large flat rocks.  It seemed a long way to Tintagel due to the heat.  The cliffs got spectacular as I came to the end of the walk, then up the steep hill into the town – with a very large number of people around.

I had a cream tea with Margaret and went to the B&B she had arranged – a very pleasant place – must have been decorated very recently.  Ate that night in a place called Teddy’s Kitchen.  A very pleasant day.
