Day: 76 27/7/91 New Polzeath to Rock

Distance:  6km (3.7 miles)    Total Distance:   1039 miles

We left Coventry very early (5.00 am) to avoid the rush on the motorway – it did not work! The M42 was busy with caravans and we were in traffic jams on the M5 near Bristol by 7.30 am! We stopped briefly at the last services on the M5.  We were then held up at Oakhampton for 45 minutes then decided to go cross-country which was much faster.  We got to the campsite using the map my friend Richard has sent to us at 1.00.  We had a rest then set up the tent.

Meg and I drove down to New Polzeath, parked the car and had a snack in a café then strolled back to Rock along the coast.  It was not a spectacular walk and started to drizzle half way along.  There was a big contrast between Polzeath and Rock.  The former is a surfing beach with lots of the attachments whist Rock is a sailing village with expensive yachts and ducks and upper class accents.  We walked back to Polzeath along the road and stopped for a cream tea along the way – and very good it was too.
In the evening we went down to the local pub and had tea.
